Artist Transforms Iconic Properties, Including Nickelodeon's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" And "Power Rangers", Into Ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphics

The licensing business news website Licensing.biz is reporting the exciting news in the following article that the parallels between superhero fantasy and ancient mythology have been drawn ever tighter thanks to new interpretations of Egyptian hieroglyphics by by artist Josh Lane featuring the popular superhero brands of today!

In a series of pictures, Josh Lane applies the conventions of ancient Egyptian art to his portrayal of modern superhero brands by replacing the likes of the Egyptian Gods Anubis and Osiris with modern day superheroes, including Nickelodeon's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Power Rangers"!

In each picture, characters pose with feet side-on, torsos turned to face the onlooker and heads in profile. This is the ancient Egyptian way of depicting figures that was already established when the Narmer Palette, one of the earliest masterpieces of Egyptian art, was created in about 3100 BC.

In Josh's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" ancient Egyptian artwork, based on the character designs of the original 1980's animated series of TMNT, Michelangelo and Donatello are seen offering their sensei, Master Splinter, their favorite food - pizza! Supervillain Kraang also makes a appearance in the top right of the painting.

For his ancient Egyptian "Power Rangers" piece, based on the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" series, the Green Ranger, Blue Ranger and Pink Ranger are seen holding their personnel battle weapons - the Power Bow, the Dragon Dagger and the Power Lance, respectively. Symbols representing the Black Ranger's Mastodon Dinozord, the Red Ranger's Tyrranosaurus Dinozord and the Yellow Ranger's Sabertooth Tiger Dinozord.

As part of his ancient Egyptian art collection inspired by pop culture heroes, Josh has also unveiled pictures inspired by the X-Men, Star Trek, Captain America, Thor and Wolverine. You can view images of Josh's great artwork below.
