Nickelodeon News Round-Up - Issue 31: Nicktoons Edition

The Nickelodeon Animation Studio are attending Small Press Expo 2015, North America's premiere independent cartooning and comic arts festival, this weekend (9/19-20)! Nick will have a table on the floor with free comics, plus Nickelodeon Animation's very own "Harvey Beaks" storyboard artist Monica Ray will be part of the "Animate Your Life" panel on Saturday! Dark Horse Comics is hosting a fan art bending contest. All you have to do is submit an artwork of you bending an element and you're entered to win really awesome "Avatar: The Last Airbender" and "The Legend of Korra" prizes! Check out the official Korra Nation blog on Tumblr for full info!

Nickelodeon's "Pig Goat Banana Cricket" production crew visited LAC+USC Medical Center this week to screen an episode of their brand-new animated series and draw with the amazing kids there! "Off the Shelf", a short created by Robert Iza for the Nickelodeon Animated Shorts Program 2014, is available to watch online at nick.com now!

The Burbank Community YMCA recently named Nickelodeon Animation Studios as their 2015 New Community Partner! The Nickelodeon Animation Studio hosted two of last year's YMCA events — a celebration of the Y's 90th anniversary and a three-day "hackathon", in which participants created mobile apps.

The Burbank Arts for All Foundation also recently honored the Nickelodeon Animation Studio with a award for their exemplary commitment and stewardship of arts education for local public schools! Nickelodeon Animation Studio's human resources manager picked up the award on behalf of the studio at a prestigious "Party on the Plaza" gala fundraiser. Nickelodeon was also awarded the The Patron of the Arts Award, presented to local businesses or corporations whose support has made a significant impact on the foundation's mission, at the event for its generous support of the foundation since 2010!


The latest issue of Oni Press's "Invader Zim" comic book series is out now! Issue 3 was written by Eric Trueheart, drawn by Aaron Alexovich, inked by Megan Lawton, colored by Rikki Simons and Jenny Goldberg while Jhonen Vasquez sat back, played "Arkham Knight" and occasionally checked his email for updates on how the book was going and grunted.
